Founded in 1912 by William Erath as the Central Tile Company in Brooklyn, our business has a rich history of over 100 years of craftsmanship and innovation. It all began with a successful installation of bathroom tile in a 50-unit row house development, marking the company’s first major project. This success allowed William to focus on residential tile installations for many years, building a strong reputation in the industry.
In the 1940s, the company entered a new era when William’s son, also named William, joined the business. This transition saw the company shift from residential to large-scale commercial tile installations across Manhattan. As father and son worked side by side, they became trusted subcontractors, providing expert tile-setting services for major general contractors. In 1951, the family rebranded as Wm. Erath & Son, Inc., with Robert, Scott’s father, joining the business and further solidifying its legacy as a family-run operation.
In the decades that followed, the Erath family continued to build on this strong foundation. In 1977, Scott, the next generation, joined the company and took it to new heights. After Robert’s retirement in 1982, Scott assumed leadership, steering the company toward continued success and growth.
Today, the company proudly welcomes its fifth generation, with Scott’s son, Thomas Erath, who has been involved since 2005. Thomas has learned every aspect of the business, from working in the warehouse to managing projects in the field. His brother, Tim Erath, joined in 2012, beginning in estimating and project management, before pursuing his own passion in stone fabrication in 2020.
As we celebrate over a century of excellence, we remain committed to the founding principles of quality craftsmanship, integrity, and innovation in the tile industry.

Scott W. Erath keeps the tradition of high quality installations and excellent customer service on all their commercial projects. As a result, their clients such as, General Contractors, Building Owners & Architects continuously entrust Erath to complete each project with the highest of standards.
At Erath each successive generation has continued to raise the standard for our company. Our four generations of comprehensive industry knowledge and experience results in flawless execution, and the delivery of quality installations.
Over the years, Wm. Erath & Son, Inc., has mastered a wide spectrum of professionally completed high-end installations which include hotel lobbies & bathrooms, corporate office’s executive conference rooms and suites, reception areas, core bathrooms, cafeterias, lounges, restaurants & bars, grand staircases & exterior building facades.
Today, the company is owned/operated by great-grandson, Scott W. Erath.

My answer: It’s the ability to reinvent ourselves over time, and to improvise when needed to adapt to industry changes and economical challenges. That’s what has kept Wm. Erath & Son, Inc. strong for 100 years. We are continuously integrating our traditional core values with new, innovative ways of doing business.
Our concept is simple: Set an exceptionally high standard and stick to it. We take pride in our work. We are affiliated with a state-of-the-art fabrication shop, and every project is installed by experienced, skilled union craftsmen and personally supervised by me. Every single project is given our full attention and finest effort.
At Wm. Erath & Son, Inc. each successive generation has continued to raise the standard for our company, and that is why we continue to satisfy and exceed customer expectations with every project we complete. I am excited to be working with both my sons, Thomas and Tim. Together, they are helping take the company into its 5th family generation.
